Wendy and Isaac's romance began the way many modern day romances do - online. The couple met on OkCupid just weeks after Wendy relocated to Boston to begin graduate school. Wendy made the first move by sending the first message.
Another one of their favorite dates was again Boston-centric - a pizza tour around the city. Combining the couples mutual love of pizza with a fun date day was ideal! The weather, however, was not. The tour fell on the hottest day Boston had seen in years!
Most of the pizza shops were not air conditioned and the hot ovens added insult to injury. But Wendy and Isaac were determined to make the best of the heat by returning to a classic childhood past-time - running to through city fountains to shed the heat of the day.
Along with the memory, the photo taken that day quickly became a favorite. They even recreated it on the wedding day!
As Wendy and Isaac continued to date they found themselves growing together, balancing each other's personalities, and steadily merging their lives together.
"My husband is the total opposite of me - he is the calm to my crazy."
After Wendy graduated with her master's degree Isaac quit his job in Boston to follow her to North Carolina. This gesture was one of the first big moments that made her realize he could be THE ONE.
Forever and for Always
After many years together and a move across many states the couple new they would get married long before the proposal. In fact, Wendy and Isaac designed the ring together months before he popped the question.
"Isaac and I had previously designed my heirloom ring together 6 months prior to the proposal. So I knew the ring was in the house for months - and well, I was a bit pushy about it! I kept asking when he was going to do it!"
But Isaac waited until he could really surprise her. On the day of the proposal Wendy asked to go to an azalea garden in Raleigh. She had asked in hopes that the gardens would inspire him to finally ask. But after spending several hours at the garden, Wendy conceded and accepted that it was not yet the day.
She was wrong. Isaac still managed to surprise her with a proposal she knew was coming for months! Just as she was giving up hope she turned around and there he was down on one knee. "He totally got me!"
A woman nearby witnessed the proposal and rushed over to snap these photos of the moment. "I'm still so grateful for those photos."
"Isaac will tell you that the best part of the proposal day was that we were able to get a day of reservation at our favorite fancy steak restaurant for dinner! And that to celebrate our engagement, the restaurant gave us free champagne and dessert."
"My favorite part of the wedding planning was probably dress shopping!"
"Christina and her staff also helped me style my dress three different ways for my big day. I wore a lace cover up on my shoulders for the ceremony, went strapless for cocktail hour and photos, and then added straps for the reception. If it wasn't for the staff at Christina's I still may be looking for my dress!"
Wendy has a keen eye for color and chose to plan her wedding around a vision of the perfect color palette. The palette she chose was based on fuchsia, orange, and turquoise hues. Knowing the palette was quite bold she made the choice to have her bridesmaids in a blush tone and let the strong colors be featured in the flowers and various accent pieces at the wedding.
The wedding took place on the beach at the Crescent Beach Club in Bayville, NY near the Long Island Sound. Luckily, finding the venue was as easy as it probably could be while planning a wedding long distance. Wendy's parents were able to do the initial scouting and narrow down the selection for the Bride and Groom to be.
"As soon as we saw the views from the Crescent Beach we knew it was the venue!"
Wendy had not originally imagine a beach wedding, but since both Wendy and Isaac share a love of the beach, it just made sense. And while the beach was the location, the couple was not ready to subscribe to the classic laid back beach theme. They planned a formal, elegant affair with a bright beachy vibe to compliment the location.
While planning, Wendy was your typically Pinterest bride with perfectly curated boards and a clear vision.
"Our wedding could not have turned out more perfectly!"
Wendy's florist, Meredith from The Flower Petaler, was a huge part of making Wendy's pinterest perfect vision come together.
Matthew Adam Photography took the stunning photos that really allowed the bride's vision to come to life.
Wedding Day Memories
Here are some of Wendy's very favorite moments from her wedding day:
Isaac and Wendy can't wait to end their house search and settle into the perfect home in Raliegh, NC. They hope to start a family not too long after. Wendy also hopes to be able to travel more in the future "and maybe even a house on the beach? A girl can dream, right?"
